Virginia is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, having served as Ambassador to Chile and as Minister-Counsellor in Washington D.C. In her previous role as Ambassador to Chile, she oversaw the operation of the milestone Chile-Australia Free Trade Agreement, as well as helping instigate a senior officials' dialogue with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States during Chile's pro-tempore presidency.
