The ANU Chancellor's International Scholarship offers an opportunity for students from around the world to access one of multiple scholarships available to undergraduate and postgraduate students. The scholarship is designed to attract a diverse range of high calibre international students to commence study at ANU.

ANU Achievement Scholarship

Each year the Australian National University offers an award known as the ANU Achievement Scholarship to provide access and support to students with a disability, long term medical condition or effects of abuse.

ANU All-Rounder Scholarship

The Australian National University (the University) may offer an award known as the ANU All-rounder Scholarship with the aim of acknowledging the achievement of those applicants who were considered in the final stage of the Tuckwell Scholarship process and offering them financial support to study at ANU.

Whether you are a current or future ANU student there are many scholarships available to support the cost of your studies. Donors and benefactors, external organisations and the Australian Government fund many of the scholarships we offer.

Scholarships available

ANU College of Law Discretionary Student Financial Support

The ANU College of Law is able to provide a limited amount of financial assistance to support student activities. This financial assistance is primarily offered in cases where students are undertaking activities that are connected with their law studies but for which they receive no formal credit towards a law or other ANU program.

ANU College of Law International Excellence Scholarship

Each year, ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the ANU College of Law Excellence Scholarship. Valued at $20,000, this scholarship aims to attract and support international postgraduate students from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Philippines, Sri Lanka or Vietnam who have an excellent academic record (minimum GPA of 5.5 out of 7 or above).

ANU College of Law International Merit Scholarship

Each year, ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the ANU College of Law International Merit Scholarship. Valued at $10,000, this scholarship aims to attract and support international postgraduate students who have a very good academic record (minimum GPA of 5.0 out of 7 or above).

ANU College of Law International Pathway Scholarship

Each year, ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the ANU College of Law International Pathway Scholarship. Valued at $20,000, this scholarship aims to attract and support international postgraduate students from selected countries.

ANU College of Law International Partners Scholarship

Each year the ANU College of Law may offer a number of awards known as the ANU College of Law International Partners Scholarship. The scholarship, which aims to attract and support international postgraduate students who have graduated from a law program from one of our partner universities, will award a 100% tuition fee reduction.

Partners Universities eligible for this award are:

ANU College of Law Study Bursary

Each semester, the ANU College of Law offers 8 x $500 gift vouchers for LLB(Hons) and JD students to assist with the purchase of law textbooks (Harry Hartog gift vouchers) or the purchase of electronic equipment required to study law at ANU (JB Hi-Fi gift vouchers).

All LLB(Hons) & JD students who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for this bursary. Priority will be given to students who can demonstrate a higher level of financial hardship.

ANU Law Careers and Employability Travel Grant

Each year the ANU College of Law may offer a number of awards known as the ANU Law Careers and Employability Travel Grant (‘the Award’).

Valued at up to $4000, this grant aims to financially support ANU College of Law students when undertaking an ANU College of Law Careers and Employability program or initiative.

Chris and Kerryn Marks Travel Grant

The ANU College of Law may offer a number of Chris and Kerryn Marks Travel Grant awards to support ANU College of Law students undertaking an Indigenous focused course offered by the College.

This Travel Grant is for student who has applied, been offered a place in, and intends to undertake internship in 2024 with the Darwin Community Legal Service (LAWS4430/8430).

Dorothy Mayhew-Hirvonen Bursary

Each year, the ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the Dorothy Mayhew-Hirovenen bursary.

The objective of the award is to provide financial support an ANU College of Law who identifies as a female student who is able to demonstrate educational disadvantage on the grounds of financial, physical or emotional hardship.

Funding for this award has been provided by the family of Dorothy Mayhew-Hirvonen in recognition of her love of the ANU and the time she spent there as a student.

Freilich Indigenous Student Scholarship in Law

Each year, the ANU College of Law may offer an award known as The Freilich Indigenous Student Scholarship in Law. The award was created to assist members of the Indigenous Community who aspire to attend university to obtain a degree in Law to further their career aspirations. The Scholarship aims to offset some of the financial burden of attendance at university in the first year of study.

The Scholarship Fund was established from money donated to the University by the Freilich Foundation.

Frohlich Travel Grant to support the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) Fellowship

Each year the ANU College of Law, may offer an award known as the Frohlich Travel Grant to support the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) Fellowship . The objective of the award is to provide support to a current student, or graduate of the ANU College of Law, undertaking a 12 month Fellowship with the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, Netherlands.

The award is intended to assist with the cost of living expenses while the recipient works as an Assistant Legal Counsel with the PCA’s International Bureau. The recipient will assist with international arbitrations administered by the PCA, carry out legal research and drafting, and otherwise provide legal advice and services as directed by Legal Counsel within the PCA.

Frohlich World Bank Travel Grant

The ANU College of Law, in conjunction with the World Bank Group's Integrity Vice Presidency (INT), has developed an internship program of six months with the INT's Special Litigation Unit available for an existing Bachelor of Laws (Honours) or Juris Doctor (JD) student. The internship program is supported by the Frohlich World Bank travel grant, and aims to assist with expenses while the student works as a Fellow with the Special Litigation Unit at the World Bank's headquarters in Washington DC.

George Witynski Scholarship

Every four years, the ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the George Witynski Scholarship. The objective of the Award is to support regional and remote students who want to attend the Australian National University to obtain an undergraduate Law degree. The Award aims to offset some of the financial burden to attend university. 

Funding for this Award has been provided by Mr Peter Lahy, in memory of ANU alumnus Mr George Witynski.

Leslie Zines Constitutional Law Travel Grant

Each year, the ANU College of Law in association with the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department, may offer an award known as the Leslie Zines Constitutional Law Travel Grant.

The travel grant will support a domestic ANU Law student to undertake a supervised internship of ten weeks in the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department. Subject to the operational needs of the Department, it is anticipated that five weeks will be spent in the Office of Constitutional Law and five weeks in the Office of General Counsel in the Australian Government Solicitor.

Funding for the award has been provided from the Leslie Zines Endowment established in memory of Professor Leslie Zines AO, a former Dean of the ANU Faculty of Law and one of Australia's leading constitutional law scholars.

Littleton Groom Memorial Award

Each year, the ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the Littleton Groom Memorial Award.

The objective of the Award is to provide financial support to a student from Queensland to complete a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree, either as a single or flexible double degree, at the ANU College of Law.

Phillipa Weeks Scholarship in Law

Each year, the ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the Phillipa Weeks Scholarship in Law. The objective of the award is to support rural, regional and remote students who aspire to obtain a degree in Law at the ANU. The award aims to offset some of the financial burden of attendance at law school.

Funding for the award has been provided from donors to the University including alumni, law firms, the Weeks family and former colleagues, students and friends of the late Professor Phillipa Weeks. The award was established in memory of Phillipa Weeks (BA (Hons) ’74, LLB (Hons) ’79, LLM ’87), a much loved and respected former ANU Law student and Professor. Phillipa attended school in country NSW, before she was awarded a scholarship to study at the ANU. This began a successful academic career at ANU Law where she earnt much respect through her inspiring teaching and research into Labour Law and held the positions of Professor, Associate Dean and Head of School at the ANU Law School. In 2006, Professor Phillipa Weeks died at the age of only 53, after a year-long battle with cancer. Former colleagues and students of Phillipa remember her with profound respect and deep affection.

Travel Grant for a Legal Internship in London

Each year, the ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the Travel Grant for a Legal Internship in London.

The objective of the award is to provide the selected recipient with the opportunity to gain realistic, high-level and varied legal work experience through a supervised legal internship in London, England.

Funding for this award has been provided by members of the ANU College of Law.

Yuill Bursary to Support ANU College of Law Students

Each year the ANU College of Law may offer a number of awards known as the Yuill Bursary to support ANU College of Law students.

The objective of the Award is to provide financial assistance to ANU College of Law students facing financial hardship when undertaking an internship, clinic, overseas course or other initiatives offered by the ANU College of Law that are for course credit.

Yuill Travel Grant to Support the ICJ Traineeship Program

Each year the ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the Yuill Travel Grant to Support the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Fellowship Programme (‘the Award’). 

The objective of the Award is to support the recipient to undertake a ten-month Fellowship programme with the ICJ in The Hague, Netherlands.  

The aim of the Fellowship is to improve participants’ understanding of international law and of the Court’s procedures by actively involving them in the work of the Court and allowing them to gain experience under the supervision of a judge. The recipient will be required to assist judges of the ICJ in their day-to-day working tasks, including carrying out research, preparing case files, and drafting documents and judgments. 

Funding for this Award has been provided by the Yuill Endowment established in memory of the late Justice Gordon Yuill of the Family Court of Australia.

ANU College of Law Access Scholarship

Each year the ANU College of Law may offer a number of awards known as the ANU College of Law Access Scholarship (‘the Award’). 

The objective of the Award is to support students with a diagnosed disability or long-term medical condition when undertaking law studies. The Award aims to offset some of the financial burden of attendance at law school in their first year.

ANU College of Law Indigenous Justice and Education Grant

Each year the ANU College of Law (‘the College’) may offer a number of awards known as the ANU College of Law Indigenous Justice and Education Grant (‘the Award’). 

The objective of the Award is to provide financial assistance to law students to undertake Indigenous justice course or project within the College.

Haydn Marsh Memorial Scholarship in Family Law

Each year the ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the Haydn Marsh Memorial Scholarship in Family Law. The objective of the Award is to provide financial assistance to a law student, who has an interest in family law, during their last year of their program.

Funding for this Award has been provided by the law firm Farrar Gesini Dunn, in memory of Haydn Marsh, a lawyer of the firm and ANU alumnus who passed away in February 2023.

The George and Celeste Vallance Bursary

Each year the College of Law (‘the College’) may offer an award known as the George and Celeste Vallance Bursary (‘the Award’).

The objective of the Award is to provide financial support to a student who identifies as a member of the LGBTIQ+ community, and who is experiencing financial hardship.

Funding for this Award has been provided by George and Celeste Vallance. George (they/them) and Celeste (she/her) are ANU Alumni and proud member of the LGBTIQ+ community.

Squire Patton Boggs Bursary

Each semester, the ANU College of Law may offer 4x $500 gift voucher known as the Squire Patton Boggs Bursary.

The objective of the Award is to provide financial assistance to ANU College of Law students who are experiencing financial hardship whilst they are studying at ANU, and to assist with the cost of day-to-day expenses of essential items, such as food and hygienic items.

Funding for this Award has been provided by the law firm Squire Patton Boggs.
