ANU funds and administers a range of scholarships for graduate research degree programs. The University also administers a number of scholarships funded by the Australian Government and other sources external to the University.
It is also a good idea to identify any scholarships that may be available external to ANU. These may include scholarships awarded by your local government, Australian and international aid organisations and commercial enterprise. Securing external funding can greatly increase your chances of admission.
Research scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants with a proven capacity for research, and are extremely competitive. Some ANU research scholarships relevant to Higher Degree Research Students in the ANU College of Law include:
- Australia Award Scholarship
- Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA)
- Endeavour Scholarships & Fellowships
- Westpac Future Leaders Scholarship
- ANU Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for Doctoral Study
- ANU Vice-Chancellor's HDR Travel Grants
- ANU Indigenous Australian Graduate Scholarship

Please check the scholarship admission and application details carefully. You must indicate on your admission application form whether you still wish to be considered for admission if your application for a scholarship is unsuccessful. You should talk to your nominated supervisor about any other source of funding you might access, and advise the University regarding any external funding applications you have made. If you are applying for mid-year entry to a graduate research degree program, your chances of obtaining scholarship funding from the University may be greatly diminished, depending on your area of research.
Research students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week. This will generally not cover living expenses and tuition fees and we strongly advise you to ensure that you will be able to meet the cost of living.
Note, that when applying for admission there is no separate ANU scholarship application form for scholarships as it is all included in the one application form.
