Mooting and Student Competitions

The ANU College of Law is pleased to participate in the following moot competitions. Students who participate and successfully complete these competitions may receive course credit towards their ANU Law degree.

Australia-Japan Student Policy Summit

Sophia University (Tokyo, Japan) and the ANU College of Law (in partnership with the ANU College of Asia & the Pacific and the ANU Japan Institute) are establishing an exciting new collaborative opportunity for study of globally relevant policy issues and leadership.

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from roughly 700 law schools in 100 countries and jurisdictions.

Established in 2011 and named in honour of retired High Court of Australia Justice, the Hon Michael Kirby AC CMG, it is Australia’s only contract law mooting competition.

Moot Competition in Tokyo

The Intercollegiate Negotiation Competition (INC) is a major Asia-Pacific regional negotiation and commercial arbitration competition based in Tokyo. ANU students represent Australia alongside teammates drawn from law schools nationwide.

Established in 2002, the Sir Harry Gibbs Constitutional Law Moot is recognised as Australia’s premier constitutional law mooting competition for law students.

We are always expanding the range of competitions in which ANU College of Law students participate and excel.

The LSS also organises internal competition programs in mooting, negotiation and other legal skills such as witness examination and client interviewing. These provide a great way to develop the abilities and confidence to excel at prestigious intervarsity competitions.

Financial Assistance

Students that engage in an extra-curricular activity (not for credit) can request financial assistance. This include non-paid internships, study projects, conferences/seminars and competitions.

Some financial support to teams traveling to compete across Australia or overseas may be available on application to the Director of Moots & Competitions.
