Thomas Fearon is Deputy Manager of Marketing and Communications at ANU College of Law.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself including what brought you to ANU.

Originally from Newcastle, NSW before settling in Canberra in 2017, with about a decade in China in between. I was drawn to ANU because I wanted to work with great minds building a better future.

2. What do you enjoy most about working at the ANU College of Law?

The close-knit community and diverse expertise

3. What is your favourite spot on campus?

The Classics Museum

4. How do you relax away from university?

True crime podcasts and drone videography

5. How would you describe Canberra in three words?

Well-planned, scenic, forward-thinking

6. What inspired you to pursue your professional field?

I always enjoyed writing and was curious about the world, so journalism seemed a good fit. Fortunately, many of its skills were transferable to marketing and communications.

7. What was your dream job as a child?

Fullback for the Sydney Swans

8. If you could meet one historical figure, who would it be?

Louis Armstrong

9. Who’s your favourite fictional character?

Lionel Hutz

10. What’s a project or hobby you’re currently working on that motivates you?

Photography and podcasting

11. What’s your favourite quote?

“Don’t let perfection get in the way of progress.”

12. What’s the secret to working from home successfully?

The same as working in any environment: strong coffee!

13. Who is someone you look up to?

My mother-in-law. She gives sound advice.

Stir-fried egg and tomato
